Annemarie & Geraldine

Geraldine got cancer back in 2006. Lymphoma on her liver. She recovered from the treatment but her liver began to fail. In 2013 when at a clinic appointment with Geraldine to see the doctor about going on the transplant list, he remarked on how alike we were. Asking if we were identical? No, we said, there were two placentas when we were born. He insisted we were identical and had I considered donating part of my liver to my sister?

I did, in April 2014, both 48 years old. We have been declared the first live liver transplant between identical twins in the UK. And the consultant surgeon said our case is ” one in a billion”
Geraldine is fine now, she is working, though she now knows she has Autoimmune Hepatitis.

This story was featured on our local news programs and national newspapers, and because of this we were found and took part in, The Twinstitute, aired on BBC2 last year.
